CTO ANNOUNCES WINNERS OF 2nd ANNUAL WORLDWIDE TRAVEL WRITER/ PHOTOGRAPHER AWARDS CONTEST
-- Awards Presented During CTC-27 in Aruba--

 

ORANJESTAD, Aruba (Oct. 19, 2004) – The Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO) today announced the winners of its second annual Travel Writer of the Year and Travel Photographer of the Year awards.

Freelance journalist Candyce Stapen won the North America Travel Writer of the Year award for a series of articles on family travel. These articles appeared in several publications including Caribbean Travel + Life and Physicians’ Travel & Meeting Guide.

Igor Kravtchenko of KiMagic Photography and Design took the honours as North America Travel Photographer of the Year for his work in various Caribbean publications. Jacob France was named Caribbean Travel Photographer of the Year for his work in St. Thomas – St. John This Week, St. Croix This Week, and The Aviator Magazine.

CTO also announced the winner of the Bill Baxter Canadian Travel Writer of the Year award, which was introduced this year specifically for Canadian writers. The award was won by Theresa Storm for her work in the Calgary Herald and Seastravel.ca.

The various winners received their awards today at the Visa sponsored luncheon during the 27th annual Caribbean Tourism Conference (CTC-27) in Aruba.

The Travel Writer of the Year and Travel Photographer of the Year awards are part of the CTO Worldwide Travel Writer/Photographer Awards programme and was created to reward writers and photographers for their excellence in covering Caribbean tourism.

CTO received over 100 entries for this year’s contest. Entries were judged on individual merit by a panel of judges headed by Professor Dorothy Reid, director, Journalism Programme and Media Arts Department, Long Island University.

“We are very pleased with the growth of the programme in its second year and with the response and quality of entries we received,” noted Hugh Riley, CTO’s director of marketing for the Americas. “We look forward to the growing success of the programme in the years to come.”
